French photographer William Farges created the series Chimères (Imagination) as an approach to reinterpret nude photography. With his split-up images he creates completely new forms of the human body that appear twisted, distorted and oddly interesting.

The artist states: “My intention is not to cultivate individual fantasies, but a reflection on the relationship between body and mind. The strength of my work is I think in its suggestive appearance. Indeed, by combining two images taken at two different times and without artifice, without editing, the viewer unconsciously accepts it and sees my body perception.”

Ever since he was 16 and bought his first Rolleiflex camera, the art of photography has not left William Farges’ life. Born in 1991 in Dordogne, France he went to Toulouse to study the technique of shooting and printing at the Ecole de Photographie et de Game Design. After graduating, he went for two months in Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. Marked by this experience, he understood art another level after his trip; he now knew how to portray the body and the soul in photography. He resumed his studies in contemporary art at the Faculty of Mirail where he obtained a Licence. William Farges devoted his entire life to art, following the footsteps of the great masters John Colpans and Klaus Kampert.

His work was richly influenced by the artistic movements from the Renaissance to Surrealism. William Farges’ images tend to push the limits of the photographic medium and succeed in creating a parallel world where the body has a different representation.

Alongside his studies, his photographic works have been featured in many specialized magazines that published many of his pieces. William Farges was also the winner of Canson Art School in 2014, and he exhibited two of his series, “Chimeras” and “White Line”, at the European Festival of Nude Photography.

I DID THIS WORK ON THE SUGGESTION. MY GOAL WAS TO INSPIRE ME PHOTOGRAPHIC STYLE NUDE, WHILE TRYING TO RENEW. I FIRST DECIDED TO FOCUS ON OFF-FIELD TAKING PART, NOT AS THE END OF THE PICTURE, BUT AS THE BEGINNING OF THE SPECTATOR’S IMAGINATION. THEN, THE MORE I WALKED THIS PATH, THE MORE I HAD THE URGE TO GO FURTHER AND CREATE UNREAL BODY, CHIMERAS BRINGING US TO A STATE OF CONSCIOUS ANIMAL, CONTRADICTORY AND TORTURED. WHILE ON A WORK BEING POLYSEMIC, EVERYONE SEES WHAT HE WANTS. HOWEVER, MY INTENTION IS NOT TO CULTIVATE INDIVIDUAL FANTASIES, BUT A REFLECTION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BODY AND MIND. THE STRENGTH OF MY WORK IS I THINK IN ITS SUGGESTIVE APPEARANCE. INDEED, BY COMBINING TWO IMAGES TAKEN AT TWO DIFFERENT TIMES AND WITHOUT ARTIFICE, WITHOUT EDITING, THE VIEWER UNCONSCIOUSLY ACCEPTS IT AND SEES MY BODY PERCEPTION.
