Abstract:
O termo “Thermotaxis” significa o movimento de um organismo vivo em resposta a estímulos de calor. Um ponto térmico tem o poder de estimular as pessoas a se reunir, como acontece com as fogueiras no inverno ou os locais que possuem água no verão. O trabalho “Thermotaxis” caracteriza o espaço aberto como pontos térmicos invisíveis por meio do fornecimento de informações térmicas às pessoas. Nosso trabalho pretende criar uma nova estrutura espacial para comunicação, não através da abordagem arquitetônica, mas utilizando a tecnologia da informação. Para mudar as estruturas espaciais dos espaços em que vivemos, costumamos praticar uma abordagem arquitetônica. Entretanto, uma vez que essas estruturas estão construídas, reconfigurá-las incorre em custos substanciais e tempo. Preservar a flexibilidade ao mudar o desenho espacial é essencial para a utilização eficiente dos espaços. Neste trabalho, o espaço é caracterizado como sendo frio ou quente, enquanto campo térmico virtual invisível. Através da manipulação da informação térmica, podemos facilmente mudar a divisão implícita do espaço sem reconstruir os materiais físicos, como paredes ou divisórias. Os visitantes que colocam os protetores auriculares sentem a diferença nas temperaturas enquanto caminham no espaço aberto recém-esvaziado. Rastreando a posição de cada visitante e manipulando a temperatura dos protetores auriculares sem o uso de fios, com base em suas posições, Thermotaxis reconstrói o espaço como sendo frio ou quente, enquanto campo térmico invisível. A sensação térmica é ligada à sensação de dor e prazer mais do qualquer outro tipo de sensação. Depois de começar a experiência no Thermotaxis, os visitantes divergem em várias direções para encontrar os pontos térmicos. Em seguida, eles lentamente se agrupam com pessoas que têm uma preferência térmica similar. A posição do visitante e o seu comportamento devido ao aumento da temperatura aumenta as oportunidades de comunicação, mesmo entre estranhos. Biography:
yonakani é formado por Young an Seong (nascido em Busan, Coréia), Takiji Narumi (nascido em 1983 em Fukuoka, Japão) e Tomohiro Akagawa (nascido em 1981, Nagano, Japão). O grupo de artistas vive em Tóquio. Desde a sua fundação, em 2008, yonakani desenvolveu buscas teóricas e práticas para a new media e expressões tecnológicas. Seus projetos recentes são primariamente focados no uso de tecnologias de media para transformar espaços e interações de pessoas nesses espaços.

Abstract:
The term “Thermotaxis” signifies a movement of a living organism in response to heat stimulation. A thermal spot has power to encourage people to gather together like open fires in winter or water places in summer. The work “Thermotaxis” characterizes the open space as invisible thermal spots by providing people with thermal information. Our work aims to create a new spatial structure for communication not by architectural approach but by using information technology. To change the spatial structures of our living spaces, we usually take an architectural approach. However, once such structures have been constructed, re-configuring them incurs substantial costs and times. Reserving flexibility in changing spatial design is essential for the effective use of spaces. In this work, the space is characterized as being cool or warm as an invisible virtual thermal field. By manipulating thermal information, we can easily change implicit partitioning of the space without reconstructing physical materials, such as walls or partitions. Visitors who put on the earmuffs experience the difference in temperatures while they walk in the just empty open space. By tracking the locations of each visitor and manipulating the temperature of earmuffs wirelessly based on those locations, Thermotaxis reconstructs the space as being cool or warm as invisible thermal field. Thermal sensation is connected to pleasure-pain feeling more than other types of sensations. After starting the Thermotaxis experience, visitors diverge in various directions to find thermal spots. Then, they will slowly gather with people who have a similar thermal preference. Visitors’ location and behavior due to the temperature increase opportunities to communicate, even between strangers. Therefore we can create invisible “virtual landmark” where people gather spontaneously.

Since their foundation in 2008, yonakani have developed their theoretical and practical quests for new media and technology in expressions. Their recent projects are primarily focused on the use of media technologies to transform spaces and the interactions of people within those spaces.
