A Symphony of Noise
Created by Michaela Pnacekova, Jamie Balliu
Herbert’s everyday sound sources are the inspiration for A Symphony of Noise VR. This interactive virtual reality experience is a journey through four sonic landscapes. The first centers on breathing, which immediately makes you focus on listening to the world differently. This is followed by an arctic environment full of scraping and crunching sounds, and finally a shop interior. Using the controllers or by blowing or singing, you can add sounds to the audio palette, which is visualized as waves and colors in three-dimensional space. In the fourth and final landscape, all the sounds are combined in an ultimate symphony.

yes there will be singing

From the beginning, I never wanted to work with just Bill Viola-style hidden projectors projecting on to screens. I wanted to work with architecture and with corners and doorways and windows. A lot of Robert Morris’ writing was important to me – still is. He talks about presence, about presence in the work of art and about being present, and that’s been really influential for me. — Diana Thater

Marianthi Papalexandri-Alexandri

Untitled VI
für drei Männerstimmen und Klangobjekte
In Untitled VI the vocalists are singing with modified resonant tubes and motors the Greek word “akousate” that means to listen attentively. What happens when voice and singing are mediated and controlled with motor driven resonant bodies? How does this act of singing change the physical and imagined presence of the voice? How does it affect the process of intensive listening to one’s own voice, to one another, and to external sounds? Exploring these questions, Papalexandri encourages hearing the resonances between different voices and bodies.

Gorgeous : In the neck of time
The idea of making tilt-up portraits came to me as a consequence of a low-angle auto portrait shot as I was happened to learn singing techniques, and a visit to the Erechteion temple in Athens. Originally, I had taken this autoportrait to get a visual understanding of the throat* role in the body mecanism when you need to produce a sound. It conjured up in me the intimate feel and the sensuality of a woman’s neck, violently challenged by the potent, erect jaw.
