The photography of Madame Peripetie
Born in Poland but now based in London, Sylwana Zybura who goes under the name Madam Peripetie is a highly imaginative photographer who creates surreal, visually vibrant, unconventional characters using a variety of props and make-up and hair design.
Her new book “Dream Sequence” was recently released by Seltman+Söhne, which is based on a project she has been working on and off since 2009.
The series was inspired by Salvador Dali’s dream scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s film “Spellbound.”
Her work has been featured in a wide range of publications, with her most recent project being a collaboration/installation with the women’s clothing brand Top Shop.
Created jointly with stylist Stella Gosteva and make-up artist Marina Keri, this photography series seeks to “illuminate the dreamy phantasmagorias to which we disappear to in the night, creating charaters that ‘radiate a sense of ever-lasting awe and reverence.’”
“The protagonists radiate both the contemplative and poetic artificiality of Sugimoto’s wax sculptures.”
