Ana Teresa Barboza mixes embroidery and drawing within her collected works. Using the fur of animals as a perfect leeway for her stitching technique, Barboza layers thin strips of string expertly to imitate the texture of a creature’s fur. While animals and vegetation are richly detailed in her works, she chooses to display her human subject matter as basic, black stitched figures or graphite drawing. The end result is a texturized feast for the eyes.

Ana Teresa Barboza is interested in the different concepts she can arrive while using clothing or embroidery on her artistic work. Great part of her work concentrates around the human body. At the beginning she worked the body as a fragmented structure which she sewed and embroidered back into shape. The awareness of the human body and its stuffed organs were realized in a raw primal manner. From “Modes of Dressing” this concern to the body and its interior is displaced outwards, to her surroundings to concentrate on the links which tie her to others. She uses dress as a means of socializing, simulataneous to a metaphor of the human body. Graduated from Faculty of painting at the PUCP In 2010 she won First prize of Banco Central de Reserva and in 2006 the First prize for Pasaporte para un Artista.
