Manon Awst and Benjamin Walther create collaborative sculptures, performances, and paintings that combine ephemeral materials such as ice, grapes, and gelatin with plaster, metal, gold, and other materials. The husband-and-wife team take inspiration from their individual backgrounds in theater and architecture. Dresden- born Walther worked as a theater director after studying art and philosophy at Berlin’s Humbolt-Universität. Awst was born in the Isle of Anglesey in Wales and studied architecture at Cambridge University.

Since 2006 the German-Welsh couple Manon Awst and Benjamin Walther have lived and worked in Berlin and Wales. In their work they examine questions of human existence and discuss behavioural standards and social values. The main subject of their artistic interest is space. And this is where they combine different materials like gelatine or ice as well as light to create visual metaphors.

In 2009 their works were presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale, and their biggest sculpture until now, entitled Work in Progress, was installed at the German embassy in London. Manon Awst and Benjamin Walther are represented by the London gallery Hannah Barry.

Between January and March 2010 Manon Awst and Benjamin Walther were, at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut Prague, Artists in Residence at Prague’s MeetFactory. On April 2nd a vernissage was held showcasing the works created during their stay in the city.

Německo-waleská dvojice umělců Manon Awst a Benjamin Walther žije a pracuje od roku 2006 v Berlíně a Walesu. Ve svých dílech zkoumá otázky lidské existence a kriticky se vyrovnává s normami chování a společenskými hodnotami. Zájem umělců se vztahuje především k prostoru. V něm spojují rozličné materiály, například želatinu nebo led či světlo, do vizuálních metafor.

V roce 2009 byla jejich díla vystavena na 53. bienále v Benátkách. Svoji dosud největší skulpturu Work in progress postavili v listopadu 2009 v areálu německého velvyslanectví v Londýně. Manon Awst a Benjamin Walther reprezentuje Hannah Barry Gallery v Londýně.

Na pozvání Goethe-Institutu Prag a centra MeetFactory byli Manon Awst a Benjamin Walther od ledna do března 2010 Artists in Residence v Praze. 2. dubna se konala vernisáž děl, která vznikla za jejich pražského pobytu.

Das deutsch-walisische Künstlerpaar Manon Awst und Benjamin Walther lebt und arbeitet seit 2006 in Berlin und Wales. In ihren Werken untersuchen sie Fragen der menschlichen Existenz und setzen sich mit Verhaltensnormen und gesellschaftlichen Werten auseinander. Ihr künstlerisches Interesse gilt dabei vor allem dem Raum. Hier verbinden sie unterschiedliche Materialien wie beispielsweise Gelatine oder Eis sowie Licht zu visuellen Metaphern.

Im Jahre 2009 wurden ihre Werke auf der 53. Biennale in Venedig ausgestellt. Ihre bisher größte Skulptur Work in Progress wurde im November 2009 in der Deutschen Botschaft in London errichtet. Manon Awst und Benjamin Walther werden von der Hannah Barry Gallery in London repräsentiert.

Auf Einladung des Goethe-Instituts in Prag und der MeetFactory waren Manon Awst und Benjamin Walther von Januar bis März 2010 Artists in Residence in Prag. Am 2. April fand die Vernissage der Werke statt, die während ihres Aufenthalts in Prag entstanden.
