french-israeli-swedish architect-designer bina baitel‘s lighting transcends the interaction between light and material, combining technological innovation with french handcraft. her newest collection of lighting objects is commissioned and produced by nextlevel galerie in paris.
‘pull-over’: baitel’s previously designed ‘pull-over’ tactile luminaire is now also being produced by nextlevel gallery. the skin of the design is a variable luminous source thanks to its flexible nature – the light bulb, dimmer and lampshade are one. the skin can be unrolled over and over again through a simple movement to vary the light’s atmosphere. to achieve this, micro-perforated optical fibers and translucent silicone one the interior are combined with an external silicon layer that ensures the light’s opaqueness, and also provides
strength to the cone.

Bina BAITEL a imaginé ce luminaire suivant l’impact d’une manipulation faite sur la lumière.

Il est réalisé à partir de bandes textiles lumineuses, entrecroisées à la base, puis juxtaposées verticalement jusqu’en partie haute. Une couche externe de silicone assure la tenue et l’opacité du cône ainsi formé.

La partie interne est enduite d’une peau de silicone translucide. Sa forme réversible et le traitement des fibres optiques permettent d’étendre la diffusion de lumière en limitant la consommation d’énergie. Ainsi, l’usager module la lumière et sa diffusion suivant s’il retourne plus ou moins le luminaire.
Ce projet a pu être réalisé grâce à l’aide du VIA et n’existe pour l’instant que sous la forme de prototype. Il a été présenté au salon Maison et Objets à Paris en Janvier 2008.

BINA BAITEL
Born in Paris in 1977, Bina Baitel graduated from the National School of Architecture La Villette in 2002.
Designer and Architect, she founds her own design studio in 2006 working across a broad range of sectors including furniture, lighting, architecture, limited edition, consumer goods, art direction, and space installations.
Winner of the VIA Creation Award in 2008 for her Pull-Over lamp, Bina Baitel inaugurates her first solo show at the NextLevel Galerie in 2010.
In 2012, Bina Baitel has received prestigious awards including: The City of Paris Grand Prize for Creation and the First Prize of the International City of Aubusson tapestry.
Currently in residence at the Ateliers de Paris, Bina Baitel cultivates experimentation and simplicity to transform concepts into objects and spaces..

BINA BAITEL
Née à Paris en 1977, Bina Baitel est diplômée de l’École National Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette.
Designer et Architecte DPLG, elle fonde son propre studio de design et architecture en 2006.
Lauréate des Aides à la Création du VIA en 2008 pour son luminaire PullOver, Bina Baitel collabore avec la Galerie NextLevel dès 2010 pour sa collection Under My Skin.
Les collaborations se succèdent tant avec la grande distribution qu’avec les marques de luxe, les maisons d’édition et les galeries d’art.
En 2012, elle remporte le Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris et le Premier Prix de la Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie d’Aubusson.
Actuellement en résidence aux Ateliers de Paris, Bina Baitel cultive l’expérimentation et la simplicité pour transformer des concepts en objets et en espaces.
