Carla Gannis lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Gannis is the recipient of several awards and her work has been featured or reviewed in The Huffington Post, Wired, Art F City, Hyperallergic, The Wallstreet Journal, & The New York Times, among others. Most recently she collaborated with poet Justin Petropoulos on a transmedia book, installation and net art project entitled legend legend (Jaded Ibis Press and Transfer Gallery, 2013).
She is faculty and Assistant Chair of the Department of Digital Arts at Pratt Institute.

Carla Gannis is represented by Kasia Kay Art projects Gallery in Chicago and by Transfer Gallery in Brooklyn.

Il Trittico del Giardino delle delizie è una delle opere più famose del pittore olandese Hyeronimus Bosch. Risale alla fine del quindicesimo secolo ed è conservato al Museo del Prado di Madrid. Il Trittico del Giardino delle delizie emoji è la versione realizzata dall’artista contemporanea Carla Gannis, in cui lo spazio è invaso dalle piccole icone che oggi – complice l’effetto WhatsApp – stanno diventando componente sempre più significativa del nostro linguaggio. Non è la prima volta che gli artisti giocano con gli emoji, magari inserendoli nel mondo reale o utilizzandoli come frammenti neogeroglifici per indovinelli cinematografici. L’opera di Carla Gannis attualmente è esposta alla Kasia Kay Art Projects Gallery di Chicago.

Los emoticonos pueden ser algo más que una forma de animar tus conversaciones digitales, sobre todo para la artista de nuevos medios Carla Gannis. Con El jardín de las delicias de los emoticonos [The Garden of Emoji Delights en inglés] Gannis reconstruye el famoso tríptico de El Bosco adaptándolo a la era digital, experimentando con nuevos modos de redefinir la identidad y sus formas de representación, tanto virtuales como físicas.

Sustituyendo el vocabulario religioso por símbolos digitales contemporáneos y seculares, Gannis reconstruye la poderosa iconografía que alberga el paisaje de El Bosch en El jardín de las delicias. Su alucinante collage de arte popular digital explora y critica el consumismo y la sociedad moderna a través de los tres mundos de emoticonos: el edén, el infierno y la tierra.
