Born in 1970 in Uruguay
Lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil
Fernando Velázquez is a media artist. He works with video, installations, interactive, objects and audiovisual performances. He is PhD candidate in Communication and Semiotics at PUC-SP, and participate in exhibitions as the Mercosul Biennale (Brazil, 2009), Mapping Festival (Switzerland, 2011), WRO Biennale (Poland, 2011) and the Pocket Film Festival at Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2007). His work was honored with several distinctions as the Sergio Motta Prize for Art and Technology (Brazil, 2009), Locative Media Arte.mov (Brazil, 2008) and Artificial Life (Spain, 2008) among others. He use to give courses and workshops in public and private institutions and non-profits or independent organizations. Nowadays he teach in a post graduation course at FAAP University, São Paulo, Brazil. Lives and work in Sao Paulo.

As impressões em metacrilato desta série, são realizadas através da composição sequencial de ‘auto-imagens’ que um algoritmo personalizado faz de si mesmo a intervalos de tempo.
A série Mindscapes inclui vídeos, metacrilatos, uma instalação interativa e uma performance audiovisual onde se explora a ideia de paisagem relacionada à atividade cerebral. Mais do que buscar uma literalidade, a pesquisa recorre a algoritmos generativos para especular a respeito dos processos, fluxos e relacionamentos entre os diversos dispositivos e sistemas que nos conformam, e influenciam o modo como percebemos o mundo, construímos o conhecimento e articulamos memórias.

The methacrylate prints of this series are compositions of software generated images done by the algorithm specially developed for the piece.
The Mindscapes series is a set of videos, plexiglas prints, an interactive installation, and a live image performance where the idea of landscape is explored in relation of brain activity. Rather than seek a literalness, the research uses computer algorithms to speculate about the processes, flows and relationships between the devices and systems conform us, and influence how we perceive the world, build awareness and articulate memoirs.
