Konzept, Choreografie: Isabelle Schad, Laurent Goldring, Performance: Isabelle Schad. Mit: Anja Bornsek u.a.

Here everything seems to change all the time! Surrounding herself with panels of fabric the Berlin choreographer Isabelle Schad creates fascinating images. Is this a cage, a ball or even a dress and the human figure inside a cartoon character? She shows us how exciting an expedition to the human body and its relation to space can be. Starting from a lecture performance at tanzhaus nrw in the summer of 2014 where she showed excerpts from her piece “Unturtled 1 – 4” and “Der Bau” came the idea to develop a new version for children. It was impressive to see how the relations between body, movement, image, representation, between form and experience gain a life of their own through fabric, movement and humor. Kafka´s novel “Der Bau” inspired Isabelle Schad just like Rilke´s description of the works of Auguste Rodin, stating that he did not sculpture the body but the space around the body.
Working with the artist Laurent Goldring, Isabelle Schad searches for “constellations of forming” in her “pieces of change”, says the journalist Susanne Foellmer. Schad presented “Der Bau” at the Tanzplattform Deutschland in 2014 in Hamburg, one of the most important national dance events presenting the twelve most outstanding productions from the last two years from Germany.

What is a Physical Introduction? The Physical Introduction is a new format for the audience at the tanzhaus nrw. It is aimed to all interested people who want to learn the special movement quality or the choreographic idea of a piece before the performance. Under the guidance of experienced teachers like Anja Bornsek it is about getting yourself in motion. The Physical Introduction preparates us as spectators to sharpen the senses and get access to what is happening on stage. It is not about imitating concrete scenes of the performance but being able to empathize the characteristic movement principles and intentions of a piece through improvisation and other creative exercises. It is clear: It is just fun! For the 45-minutes warm-up no experience is necessary. Comfortable clothing is useful but not a must.

Concept, choreography: Isabelle Schad, Laurent Goldring, Performance: Isabelle Schad.

Dancer and choreographer Isabelle Schad studied classical dance in Stuttgart and danced for many different choreographers before she started initiating her own projects in 1999. Her research focuses on the body and its materiality; the relationship between bodies, (re-) presentation, form and experience; practice as a learning process; community and political involvement – among others.

Her works are situated on the interface between dance, performance and the visual arts; they tour internationally. She has co-initiated numerous projects/groups that searched for connections between various fields of research and practice, whereby production methods are also questioned by participants. She teaches throughout the world and in various formats. She is the co-director of a project space in the Wiesenburg in Berlin.
