Kerry Howley, a creative art student, from Cambridge, England, is creating quite a buzz in the art world, with her collection of delicate necklaces made from human hair.

The idea of creating jewelry from human hair was inspired by people’s aversion to cut hair. Hair is usually regarded as a very important part of the human body and is worn with pride, but once its connection to the body has been severed, it’s viewed as slightly disgusting. Through her art, the young Middlesex student “hoped to create a delicate balance between the viewer/wearer’s feelings of aversion and attraction.” She wanted to see if she could make cut hair attractive again.

The main material for Howley’s masterpieces was provided by one of her mother’s friends, a Japanese woman with hair down to her waist. She only cuts it once every five years, and when she had 30 cm cut off the bottom, she gave it all to Kerry. The 23-year-old art student used broken saw blades to cut and weave the strands of hair into abstract shapes inspired by wallpaper patterns, and spent over 60 hours working on each of the five hair necklaces she has created so far.

Лондонский дизайнер Керри Хаули, обычно занимающаяся созданием украшений из металла и камней, представила коллекцию чрезвычайно необычных украшений под очень красноречивым названием “Attraction/Aversion”.
Коллекция ожерелий выполнена из очень длинных, более двух футов, волос знакомой Хаули, женщины японского происхождения – волосы азиатов сильно отличаются от волос европейцев своей по жесткости, толщине и способности сохранять форму, и лучше подходят для подобных изделий.
Наматывая обрезанные локоны на обломок пилы, Хаули создавала и фиксировала в нужном положении вычурные, кружевообразные, узоры.

Los collares están hechos de pelo humano, un material familiar del que nos enorgullecemos. Sin embargo, una vez fuera, el pelo del cuerpo se convierte en una fuente innata de la aversión. Kerry Howley quería ver si podía hacer que el pelo descartó nuevamente atractivo.

A través de la forma familiar de un collar, y el uso de patrones y simetría que son instintivamente agradables, Kerry ha creado un delicado equilibrio entre el espectador / usuario sentimientos de la aversión y atracción.

A estudante de arte Kerry Howley é ousada. E a ousadia rendeu a ela um prêmio, conquistado com uma coleção incomum: colares feitos com cabelo humano. Kerry deu à coleção o nome de Attraction/Aversion (Atração/Aversão).

Kerry, de 23 anos, estuda arte em Cambridge (Inglaterra). A maior parte da matéria-prima para as “joias” veio de uma amiga da mãe da estudante. A mulher tem o cabelo até a cintura, de acordo com o site “Oddity Central”.

Kerry Howley est une jeune artiste joaillère britannique.

Son projet de fin d’étude Attraction/Aversion interroge nos réactions instinctives face à un objet. En effet ses bijoux, bien que jouant sur des formes courbes et symétriques agréables à l’œil, suscitent immédiatement un sentiment d’aversion parce qu’ils sont fabriqués à l’aide de cheveux humains, véhiculant toujours une dimension morbide.
