Work: Landscape n°2: Nostalgia is from the series Endless in Rotterdam. This series is made out portrait of artist who live or are in residency in independent art spaces run by artists.

The “Endless Project” could be a cartography of independent art spaces in Europe; a documentary. It could also be a representation of my mental landscape… or a succession of images relating stories; stories of encounters, possible and impossible. In fact a human story that is played inside the viewer. Each image interacting with each other to form a connected space, a same story.
This project is not a photographic documentary, though you can see it as such while remaining aware of it subjectivity and yours. Images of the “Endless project” are not a series of portraits of artists, they are the traces of a meeting. Each encounter is a process of convergence of egos, sometime as a verbal joust, at another time as a divergence, and few time in “sharing of egos” in a conversation. During this encounters time I place points on a map which will later be used to develop his narration.
“Endless Project” is a gathering of stories from others. Even when he approaches abstraction, Marc Maisonneuve tell the merger between matter and language, between verbs and words, between the other and the inner being.

Ghislain Amar is a young artist who has spent one year in Foundation B.a.d during his study time in Willem de Kooning Academy. It allows him to be in connection with professional artists.

The work is related to indicidual and crisis.

Marc de Maisonneuve, born 1982 in France. Studied in Rennes Fine art school in France. After his study in 2004 he left France to lived 4 years in China where he worked for museums and realize installations and drawings. He is currently traveling around Europe to develop the project Endless.

Since 2010, he realizes the project Endless. He is traveling through Europe in order to run it in independent art spaces. Each work is in collaboration with artists who live there. He takes pictures of theirs studios and encrust 3d Objects inside it. Each Object or “Landscape” deals with the statement of the artist inside a complex environment (social, economical, artistic…).

In France, he has been to “Les ateliers du bout du monde” (Lorient). It was the first try of this project. He did not follow a special idea. This resulted in a series of portraits which deal with Objects. Each of them are in confrontation with the environment of artists and how they react to it.

In Foundation B.a.d (Rotterdam-NL) he slowly went to the idea of landscape because of the Netherlands. There is no landscape there as he could understand it. The landscape there has been handmade, has been decided by its inhabitants. This idea is important inside the project Endless. Self-determination inside a environment was completely dealing with the idea of independent spaces and responsibility. The second reason that lead Marc de Maisonneuve to go to landscape was that Objects are too simple to interact with the statement of artist in Foundation B.a.d.. A landscape leaves more space to consider artist’s statement inside his environment without going to a basic speech, without going to science. It leaves a place for something else that transcends languages.

Each picture is a long process of meeting with a environment and a statement. This way, the artist goes to someone and tries to find a way to understand each other by sending him to empathy but also to its limit; he never makes portraits of artists, but always follows a different way to be and tries to imagine his visage inside a different environment.
