The slick site specific installations of Megan Geckler beam and bounce of walls like lasers. Her installations’ ultra clean geometric forms and bright colors nearly hide the personal quality to the work. The plastic rays are actually made of flagging tape – the kind you find just off the sidewalk typically used by surveyors. Her installations intentionally bounce between art and design, industrial and hand made, cold and personal. Also, just as her work shifts conceptually, it also shifts in shape from angle to angle. Strands at one angle interact with strands at other angles as a viewer moves through the space.

Upon first look, Megan Geckler’s work seems to be digital in nature; the colors are vibrant and unreal. Her installations are created with flagging tape, a mass-produced colorful plastic ribbon utilized on construction sites and assembled by hand alongside crews of assistants. Geckler’s process always begins with a site-visit during which she takes countless photographs, measurements and observations of the unique spaces in which she will work. This information is then translated into three-dimensional architectural drawings that help Geckler understand the site and aid in her ability to transform everyday elements of the architecture into focal points for her site-specific artworks. An installation can take a single day, or be completed over a series of weeks, depending on the size and scope of the project. In either case, each space is transformed into an immersive environment in which the viewer is given multiple pathways to experience the installation on their own terms.

Geckler has been exhibiting in galleries, museums and alternative spaces since 1998, with many shows in the United States and soon exhibiting around the globe. She has worked with clients such as Urban Outfitters, Nike and Bobble and has mounted solo shows at the Wexner Center for the Arts, the Creative Artists Agency, and the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

Los Angeles-based artist Megan Geckler has mesmerized us with her radiant, site-specific tape installations time and time again and her most recent work, titled Rewritten by Machine on New Technology, is no exception. For this piece, the skilled artist uses 720 strands of flagging tape (non-adhesive plastic ribbon) in five colors (red, orange, yellow, green, white), though the spectrum of red to yellow visually dominates the appearance of the installation from the outside.

Like a whirling inferno, Geckler’s brilliantly arranged presentation has a fiery glow that gives off the illusion of flickering flames. With 36 ribbons of tape extending from each side of the four-sided panel, they all converge and diverge with each other to create a visual dance. The colors even blend into one another, the whites and greens getting lost in the illusionary flames, heightening the perception of motion. Coupled with the repetitive and sequential distribution of Geckler’s impeccable color palette, it’s as though a fiery tornado is sitting in the middle of a room.

los angeles-based artist megan geckler has created a site-specific architectural installation at the wexner center for the arts in columbus, ohio. constructed from interlacing strips of vibrantly colored flagging tape, the work entitled ‘spread the ashes of the colors’ hovers above and surrounds visitors in the institution’s café and lobby areas.

the piece was originally envisioned to be completely white, however, because of its complexity, geckler decided to use a CMYK color process, referencing basic art techniques, and to avoid making the installation seem too intense as a monochrome form.

La artista Megan Geckler ha creado esta potente instalación en el Wexner Center for the Arts en Columbus, Ohio . La obra titulada “spread the ashes of the colors” está hecha a base de cintas de vibrantes colores. No os perdais las imágenes.

En principio la pieza se diseñó para ser completamente blanca, sin embargo dada la complejidad espacial del elemento, Glecker decidió usar los colores básicos de impresión (CMYK) para hacerla más intensa.

مجموعه‌ای از شبکه‌های چوبی رنگی در طرح‌های عمودی و افقی متفاوت در طراحی داخلی دکوراسیون ساختمان مرکز هنری Wexner نیویورک به اجرا درآمده که با حرکت گردان و چرخشی خود رنگین‌کمانی از رنگ‌ها را به نمایش درآورده است.
ترکیب داخلی این شبکه‌های رنگی به‌گونه‌ای درداخل ساختمان این مرکز هنری جای گرفته‌اند که می‌توان تونلی از چوب‌های عمودی و افقی با زوایای مختلف هندسی را در آن مشاهده کرد.

این تونل، رنگین‌کمان رنگ‌ها را به صورت چرخشی و مدور به نمایش درآورده وهر کدام ازاین بخش‌ها در ناحیه خاصی از بدنه شکسته شده و در یک زاویه شیب‌دار متفاوت طراحی شده‌اند.

از این رو می‌توان چوب‌های رنگی را به صورت متراکم با انبوهی از الوارهای پیچشی مشاهده کرد، در حالیکه این نوع طراحی فقط به ظاهر اینگونه به‌نظر می‌رسد و در اصل با استفاده از قوانین منظم هندسی صورت گرفته است. تعیین نوع زوایا، چگونگی شکست چوب‌ها و طراحی تراکمی داخلی آن‌ها نشان‌دهنده تبعیت صحیح از قوانین منظم هندسی در طراحی دکوراسیون داخلی ساختمان است.
