ADULT
DECAMPMENT, TRADITIONS & POSSESSION(S)

Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller will screen their original film, the Three Grace(s) triptych, accompanied by a live soundtrack.
The triptych includes three shorter films, “Decampment” (2008), “Traditions” (2010) and “Possessions” (2010). (The films are in color, though the accompanying promo still is in black and white.)

Kuperus and Miller will perform the soundtrack as ADULT., the electronic musical duo under whose name they’ve released five full-length albums and performed live internationally.

Here’s a description of the film from its Facebook page: “The approximately 95 minute presentation consists of three interconnected short films; the first being the silent-experimental-horror mirage DECAMPMENT, which was made in 2008. DECAMPMENT follows a provisional women’s transmigration from her ‘past’ life into a new society full of deceit and fable. The second chapter in the trilogy is entitled TRADITIONS (2010). TRADITIONS follows two young female friends and their matriarchs, all with unknown (and unchosen) inheritances, down four crossed paths. The trilogy concludes with the brand new dark and claustrophobic installment entitled POSSESSION(S) (2010). POSSESSION(S) simultaneously completes and ignores the narrative triad with doubles.”

ADULT. is from Detroit. Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller began their unpredictable path with one now totally obscure 12″. The Modern Romantics 12″ was recorded under the name PLASMA Co. and released on the German label Electrecord in 1998. Realizing the effeteness of the moniker PLASMA Co. (but still drawn to the period at the end of the name), they quickly changed to the more fitting title of ADULT. and in the same year released their second 12″ Dispassionate Furniture on their own label Ersatz Audio which they had started back in 1995. Three 12″s followed, including the highly sought after New-Phonies limited edition picture disc on the Dutch imprint Clone Records which introduced the now unmistakable photography of Kuperus. www.nicolakuperus.com

Things began to change for ADULT. in 2001 with the release of their first compact disc Resuscitation, (which is a collection of their first four 12″ singles). Reaching more freaks than vinyl could back then apparently, ADULT. went out doing more shows than ever before as well as remixing everyone from Tuxedomoon to Phoenecia . After two more 12″s and their first limited hand-numbered 7″, ADULT. delivered their second album Anxiety Always in 2003. Following it’s release, ADULT. embarked on their first “proper” US and European tour. Not really fit for public saturation, ADULT. suffered minor neurasthenia after this and only did one live show in 2004 and three limited hand-numbered 7″s.

Junto com artistas como o Dopplereffekt e seus próprios colegas do Ersatz Audio, eles foram responsáveis por manter viva nos anos 90 a tradição do electro oitentista.
