Minerva

Work: The myth says that Minerva was born from a Jupiter headache. the reference to the Roman myth, derived from Greek (Athena) is the emblem of the entire contemporary Western culture, played at a time of deep economic and social crisis like the one that Europe is going through in recent years, from tragic situation of Greece. Its crushing reveals a surprising and unexpected content. Gligorov in this work is intended to symbolize the collapse, the fracture of the past from which emerges an egg that in all respects is considered the largest cell visible to the naked eye … then by a death a new life, a rebirth. From a single-celled organism to a most complex organism. Indirectly you could even make a reference to the famous “Through the looking glass” by Lewis Carroll where Humpy Dumpy fell from the wall and breaks his head.

Dollar note, 2006-7.

Fish eye, 2006-7.

Robert Gligorov è nato a Kriva Palanca in Macedonia, attualmente vive e lavora a Milano.

Gligorov was born in 1959 in Kriva Palanca, Macedonia.
He lives and works in Milan, Italy.

Gligorov’s work attempts to shock the viewer. Each piece tantalizes the imagination, awakening it from a state of lethargy. Confronting a society accustomed to sophisticated and extreme forms of visual communication, Gligorov amplifies the shock value of his work in order to compete with the deluge of images that cloud our visual field.
