Artist Statement
MAT BEVEL – portrait of an artist

What I know about Mat Bevel and his Institute.

Mat Bevel is a mystical being that Ned Schaper has created from his inspirations.

In the Mat Bevel Institute there is an imaginary kingdom called Beveldom, and the Museum of Kinetic Art is located there as well.

Mat Bevel Institute is operated by Ned Schaper and his fictitious staff members (characters).

The staff members (characters) are existences who appeared from Mat Bevel and each of them are given specific roles and poems.

Museum of Kinetic Art’s exhibitions (Kinetic Art) are created using materials reprocessed from industrial and daily waste products.

Though the exhibited objects at the Museum of Kinetic Art are always the same, their positions and compositions are constantly reorganized.

The Mat Bevel Institute is located on 530 Stone Ave., Tucson, Arizona.

The Museum of Kinetic Art is almost never open.

In this series “Mat Bevel”, I am presenting portraits of the “staff members (characters)” with their names and poems pasted on their backgrounds.
