The Pillow Book
Beautiful to behold and impossible to forget, THE PILLOW BOOK is auteur Peter Greenaway’s erotically-charged drama about love, death, revenge and the indelible nature of our earliest memories. Each year on her birthday, Nagiko (Vivian Wu) would became her father’s canvas, as he painted the creation myth in elaborate, elegant calligraphy on her body. Years later, she continues the practice with a succession of lovers, including a bisexual translator (Ewan McGregor) who becomes a pawn in an escalating game of vengeance against her beloved father’s exploitative publisher. Told in a series of chapters and featuring innovative cinematography and picture-in-picture techniques, Roger Ebert called THE PILLOW BOOK “a seductive and elegant story [that] stands outside the ordinary.”

Patriots, citizens, lovers was developed in conversation with Ukrainian journalist Maxim Ivanukha as a commission of the PinchukArtCentre’s Future Generation Art Prize 2014 and is composed of ten urgent interviews with Ukrainian LGBTI and queer activists who discuss the critical and dire situation of lesbian, gay, trans and intersex lives in Ukraine in times of war[…] Social invisibility, physical and psychological abuse, political violence, and a deeply patriarchal culture frame the context for the difficult work of LGBTI activists who denounce discrimination and demand the transformation of the system.

Computergesteuerte Fünfkanal-Video- / Toninstallation mit fünf Videoprojektoren, einem Achtkanal-Soundsystem und Diaprojektoren […] Als Bild  schlägt ein Liebespaar häufig eine Burg der Ausgrenzung vor. Mit der sexuellen Befreiung der letzten Jahrzehnte hat das Wort nun mehr mit körperlicher Kopplung zu tun als mit der Erhabenheit der „wahren Liebe“. AIDS hat dieser Paarung eine neue Dimension der Vorsicht hinzugefügt. Die lebensgroßen Tänzer in Lovers haben kein Leben mehr. Die nackten Figuren werden auf die schwarzen Wände eines quadratischen Raums projiziert und haben eine spektrale Qualität. Ihre Bewegungen sind einfach und sich wiederholend. Sie gehen hin und her, laufen und rennen mit tierischer Anmut. Ihre Handlungen werden im Laufe der Zeit vertraut, so dass es eine Überraschung ist, wenn zwei der durchscheinenden Körper in einer virtuellen Umarmung zusammenkommen. Diese angeblichen Liebhaber – mehr überlappend als berührend – sind physisch nicht miteinander verflochten.

10VE:SEQUENCE FOR TWO
10VE:SEQUENCE FOR TWO is a duet for two amplified bodies equipped with wireless biofeedback and movement devices, measuring the performers heart-rate, stress-level, breath and movement. The synchronizations and correlations of the signals generate a musical representation of the occurring processes between their bodies.

LOVERS
Computer-controlled, five-channel video/sound installation with five video projectors, eight-channel sound system, and slide projectors […] As an image, a pair of lovers often suggests a castle of exclusion. With the sexual liberation of the last few decades, the word now has more to do with physical coupling than with the sublimity of “true love.” AIDS has added a new dimension of wariness to this pairing. The life-size dancers in Lovers are drained of life. Projected onto the black walls of a square room, the naked figures have a spectral quality. Their movements are simple and repetitive. Back and forth, they walk and run with animal grace. Their actions become familiar over time, so that it is a surprise when two of the translucent bodies come together in a virtual embrace. These ostensible lovers–more overlapping than touching–are not physically entwined.

Haute Couture Busts
Every fashion designer and fashion student has worked with dress forms. Dressing and draping on them while working on their future garments, before they get to fitting on a model. One of the most famous and historical brands for these dress forms is Stockman, and a lot of fashion lovers collect them and use them as decoration in their homes. Taking the fashion dress form as a piece of art, French art director Emmanuel Bossuet of EEM Agency collaborated with Stockman to produce limited edition “haute couture” busts. Limited to 10 copies of each model, the original 3 are currently on exhibit at the department store Bon Marche in Paris.

情報化による全自動的な資本主義社会のなかで、制度により規制された私たち現代人の身体と愛の在り方を静謐に表した映作品です。作者の古橋悌二は、京都を拠点として1984年に結成されたアーティスト集団「ダムタイプ」の中心メンバーとして活躍し、1995年にHIV感染のため他界しました。
≪LOVERS≫は1994年に発表された後、幾度かの改訂を経ていますが、本作は、2001年のせんだいメディアテーク開館記念展に際してダムタイプの高谷史郎氏が再現制作したもので、当館の寄託作品となっています。現在、ニューヨーク近代美術館（MOMA）に収蔵されているもの以外では唯一展示可能な状態として残る作品です。なお、仙台で12年ぶりの公開となる今回は、2001年の際には省略された部分も再現し、オリジナルに近い仕様で公開します。
