Nemo Observatorium

Si on pouvait décrire Nemo Observatorium, on en parlerait comme d’une pièce, une chambre plutôt, qui n’aurait la possibilité d’être visitée que par une ou deux personnes maximum. Dans Nemo Observatorium, le visiteur se place au centre d’un cylindre transparent et appuie sur un bouton. Ce bouton déclenche alors un tourbillon qui fait voltiger à très haute vitesse des petites bulles de polystyrène qui se déplacent trop rapidement pour être suivies par l’œil humain. La personne située à l’intérieur décide de la durée de la tornade ( tornado ). La tornade fonctionne à partir de 5 gros ventilateurs. Un situé en dessous du spectateur et 4 autres autour du cylindre.

Tornado
Un vortice alto 3 metri è formato da soffianti d’aria e una macchina del fumo ad ultrasuoni all’interno di una scultura installata nell’atrio adiacente al Giardino d’inverno. Tornado Dress

The lining of the dress has been embroidered with conductive threads and electronic components including super bright white LEDs. Three small photocells have been embroidered to the outside of the dress and detect the amount of ambient light. Depending on the quantity of light that is sensed, different flashing patterns are triggered that are reminiscent of lightning effects that can accompany severe weather situations.

Tornado
A 10-foot tall vortex is formed by air blowers and an ultrasonic fog machine inside a sculpture installed in the atrium adjacent to the Winter Garden. The vortex continually changed shape in response to the surrounding air currents.These fluctuations gave the vortex an erratic and life-like appearance. Viewers were encouraged to alter the shape of the vortex with their hands. The calm, central core of the vortex is clearly evident.
Kahn’s interactive scientific projects leave little doubt about his command of meteorological processes. Through his immense technical ability, he demonstrates the versatility of turbulent systems, such as the vortices of wind and water. He employs diverse mechanical, pneumatic and electrical technologies to design, build and refine his installations. This is how he constructs dazzlingly complex but comprehensible images of nature that respond to viewers, conform to architectural structures, and reveal environmental conditions.

“Over the last decade Alÿs made recurrent trips to the highlands south of Mexico City to chase, video camera in hand, the dusty whirls whipped up by the wind in the burnt fields at the end of the dry season. Rumor has it that the genesis of this project was, in fact, a comic quid pro quo: Alÿs overheard a conversation where friends were talking about Don Quixote fighting windmills (in Spanish, molinos de viento), but he understood instead tornadoes (remolinos de viento). Luma Arles Tower
Atelier Vincent Hecht’s photos reveal the distinctive facade of the Luma Arles tower, which is finished with 11,000 aluminium panels irregularly arranged around its concrete and steel frame. Described by architecture critic Frank Miller as a “stainless-steel tornado”, the cladding was designed by Gehry to evoke the craggy limestone cliffs around the city for which it is known.

Tokujin Yoshioka wurde 2007 auf der Design Miami zum ‘Designer des Jahres’ ernannt. Dafür kreierte er eine Installation über die wir kürzlich gestolpert sind. Er füllte einen kompletten Raum mit 2 Millionen Trinkhalmen. In den Zwischenräumen des Plastiktornados finden sich verschiedene seiner Werke. Geboren in Japan ist der Designer bekannt für seine Arbeiten, die alltägliche Materialien wie Glas, Plastik, Stoff oder Papier und sogar Taschentücher zu magischen Objekten und raumfüllenden Installationen vereinen.

Se pudéssemos descrever o Observatório Nemo, falaríamos dele como uma sala, e não como um quarto, que só poderia ser visitado por uma ou duas pessoas, no máximo. No Observatório Nemo, o visitante se posiciona no centro de um cilindro transparente e pressiona um botão. Este botão então dispara um vórtice que faz pequenas bolhas de poliestireno tremularem em alta velocidade, que se movem muito rapidamente para serem seguidas pelo olho humano. A pessoa que está dentro decide a duração do tornado. O tornado opera a partir de 5 grandes ventiladores. Um localizado abaixo do visualizador e 4 outros ao redor do cilindro.

Tornado Warning
Tornado Warning, draws from the filmmaker’s early memories of the tornado alerts in his childhood town of St Louis, Missouri. The piece contrasts an orderly space of grids and numbers with a chaotic environment of found images cut from old films, news footage, and the Internet. Ordinary objects fly around an empty room, swirling abstractions dominate the walls, and distorted bodies dance over images of radio waves. Seemingly in motion, the space of Tornado Warning appears unruly, alarming, violent and relentless.

Anish Kapoor’s rise to San Giorgio Maggiore is an interesting mix of meteorology, theology and art. It was built for the 2011 Venice Biennale, inside San Giorgio Maggiore. The installation consisted of a huge exhaust duct at the top of the church’s dome and four fan benches that circulated the air around a smoke generator on the floor, directly below the dome. The installation reminds us of a tornado that rises to the sky, but not as a meteorological phenomenon, but as an aesthetic manifestation: a work of art
