The Electric Sheep – United States

The Electric Sheep is a collective intelligence and infinite animation that started over 25 years ago. It’s based on a mathematical language invented by Draves and released as open source. Human artists and AI collaborate on designing the “Sheep” with this language. It runs as a screensaver on thousands of computers all over the world, and based on how the audience interacts, the AI learns to please its human audience. The AI, the artists, and the audience work together to create the experience.

BIO

Draves’ work was shown at LACMA, MoMA.org, Prix Ars Electronica, ZKM, and has been collected by the 21c Museum Hotel, Google, the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics, and the Allen Institute for AI. Draves’ Bomb was one of the first interactive software artworks (1994). His Fuse algorithm (1991) is the first image2image model and is known as “where the history of AI-art-as-we-know-it begins”.
