follow the front
source: yumikoono
“Follow the front” is the sentence that all the Japanese children should know from their primary schools. When they hear this sentence, they have to stand in their own position, which is decided by their height. The meaning of the custom is to make a straight line. The children can’t see the very beginning of the line so they try to make a straight line by seeing one standing in front of them. This situation is similar to Japanese society, which lays emphasis on the opinion made by all than leader’s decision. In this work, there are 1001 dolls of myself, which means even the one follow the one before, it is still myself. From this, I wanted to express my resistance against the society, which lacks the responsibilities to make decisions.
