The Heart Chamber Orchestra
File Festival – Hipersonica 

In the TERMINALBEACH Heart Chamber Orchestra (made up of artists Erich Berger and Peter Vatava), twelve musicians played pieces from the heartbeat, recorded by an electrocardiogram from data sent by sensors placed on their bodies. As the live score created in real time from the physical and emotional states of the musicians, their beats further influenced the resulting musical composition. In this way, the biological feedback loop becomes a self-generating, organic and evolving system, which creates a musical score and a show that adopts the form of open or network art, in which chance and interdependence, thus how emotional changes and computational reasoning create a biological and psychological dynamic at the same time.

Lluvia cinética
Kinetic Rain es una obra de arte diseñada para la Terminal 1 del aeropuerto Changi de Singapur. La escultura cinética agrega un elemento contemplativo al animado espacio de tránsito de la sala de salidas. Kinetic Rain consta de dos partes instaladas sobre las dos escaleras mecánicas centrales de la terminal. Cada elemento simétrico está compuesto por 608 gotas de aluminio recubiertas de cobre. Las gotas están conectadas por cables de acero a motores controlados por computadora que las suben y bajan con precisión.

Solar sônico
“Solar sônico” é composto por 14 lentes que ficam suspensas na estrutura externa da cobertura de vidro do terminal. As lentes – uma estrutura de anel de puxar envolta em um lado com vidro defletor de luz holográfico – é graduada e conectada por 20 cabos horizontais tecidos em um padrão toroidal, tensionados e presos a âncoras em ambas as extremidades. Solar sônico é uma de uma série de esculturas cromáticas de King projetadas para interagir com o sol. As lentes holográficas côncavas da escultura são posicionadas de frente para o meridiano sul do sol e são iluminadas à noite. Ray King é um artista que usa os fenômenos naturais da luz e da ótica como meio de arte. Desde 1976 expõe internacionalmente o seu trabalho. Grandes instalações foram comissionadas nos EUA, Europa e Ásia – todas são específicas do local e inspiradas no espaço e na paisagem ao redor.

Observador do espaço
Esta enorme escultura está localizada no aeroporto Mineta San Jose da Califórnia, onde arte de alta tecnologia dá as boas-vindas aos passageiros. No topo da escada rolante do Terminal B, você encontrará a máquina absurda de Schuelke. Esta escultura gigante de três pernas explora a interatividade entre os humanos e a tecnologia moderna. Ele irá girar silenciosamente com a ajuda de dois braços acionados por hélice. E seu ‘olho‘ revela imagens obtidas de câmeras embutidas.

AVATAR X Lab
Il progetto è una partnership tra ANA Holdings Inc. e Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA); una parte di AVATAR X, un programma collaborativo per il progresso dell’esplorazione e dello sviluppo dello spazio. ANA e JAXA sono entrambe esperte nel lanciare veicoli nell’atmosfera, la sensazione di sospensione o di “essere nell’aria” è naturale per entrambe le entità. Listening Post

Listening Post is an art installation by Mark Hansen and Ben Rubin that culls text fragments in real time from thousands of unrestricted Internet chat rooms, bulletin boards and other public forums. The texts are read (or sung) by a voice synthesizer, and simultaneously displayed across a suspended grid of more than two hundred small electronic screens.Listening Post cycles through a series of six movements, each a different arrangement of visual, aural, and musical elements, each with it’s own data processing logic.Dissociating the communication from its conventional on-screen presence, Listening Post is a visual and sonic response to the content, magnitude, and immediacy of virtual communication.

AVATAR X Lab
The project is a partnership between ANA Holdings Inc. and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA); a part of AVATAR X, a collaborative program for the advancement of space exploration and development. ANA and JAXA are both experts at launching vehicles into the atmosphere, the feeling of suspension or ‘being in the air’ is natural for both entities. The AVATAR X Lab Building is designed as a suspended building floating above a moon-like crater. The multi-story structure floats eighteen meters above the crater bottom, and is accessible by a bridge. When astronauts board a spacecraft they cross a bridge; when we board a plane we walk across a jet bridge between the terminal and airplane. This is our last contact with familiar ground before taking off for someplace new. The suspended building embodies this crossing of thresholds: after passing over the bridge you are transported to a new place, the AVATAR X Lab Building, where technological innovation will change how we see the world.

Space observer
This huge sculpture is placed in California’s Mineta San Jose airport, where high-tech art welcomes the passengers. At the top of the escalator at the new Terminal B you will find Schuelke’s absurd machine. This giant three-legged sculpture explores the interactivity between humans and modern technology. It will quietly rotate with the aid of two propeller-tripped arms. And its ‘eye’ reveals images picked up from embedded cameras.

“Outrospectre” is an experimental proposal for a medical device aimed at reconciling people with death through simulating out-of-body experiences. In healthcare the majority of efforts and research focus on keeping people alive. The fear and experience of death is a mostly neglected topic. Recent (para) psychological research, however, suggests that the sensation of drifting outside of one’s own body using virtual reality technology could help reduce death anxiety. “Outrospectre” explores the possible application of these findings in hospital surroundings where it could help terminal patients accept their own mortality with more comfort.
This project investigates unanswered questions about mortality and ‘end of life’.

‘Terminal Slam’ is directed by Squarepusher’s longtime collaborator, Daito Manabe. He is one of the directors and founders of Rhizomatiks, Japan’s world-renowned artists, programmers and DJs who have collaborated with a variety of domestic and international artists.

When British art historian Claudine learns that her cancer is terminal, she abandons caution and takes her lover, Chris, on an extraordinary journey to Venice, where their passion finds fulfillment in the fantastic paintings of Hieronymus Bosch. Videotaping their trip, Claudine intends to leave Chris a haunting record of their emotional and spiritual discoveries.

TERMINAL
Terminal is a light space, that shines alone at night, separate from the outside world and yet open at both ends, a passage and a space of other kind at the same time, that dissolves in light. In art, light means enactment and dramatization, in this way the light space is a stage on which one gets isolated from the outside world as a spectator, but stands in the spotlight at the same time seen by everyone. At nights the Terminal is a light source: a star, that shines on the square, a shining riddle, that strangely isn’t media nor street light, pointless, but therefore very poetic[…]

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport

The new terminal of Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, the first airport by Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, encompasses 63 contact gates, with a further 15 remote gates and significant retail space.
It increase the capacity of the airport by 58%, allowing the airport to handle up to 45 million passengers per year.The sculptural 500,000 sqm terminal evokes the image of a manta ray and features an internal and external double skin honeycomb motif that wraps the structure.1.5 km long, with roof spans of up to 80 m, honeycomb shaped metal and glass panels punctuate the façade of the terminal allowing natural light to filter through. Inside, the terminal is characterized by distinctive white conical supporting columns that rise to touch the roof at a cathedral-like scale.The focal point of the design is the concourse located at the intersection of the building.
Consisting of three levels – departure, arrivals and services – vertically connected to create full height voids and allowing natural light to filter from the highest level down to the lowest.

SolarSonic

Inspiriert vom alten chinesischen „Bi“, den neolithischen Jadescheiben mit einer zentralen Öffnung, die verwendet wurden, um über das Überschreiten der Erde zum Himmel zu meditieren, besteht “Solarsonic” aus 14 Linsen, die in der äußeren Glasdachstruktur des Terminals aufgehängt sind. Die Linsen – Eine einseitig mit holographischem lichtablenkendem Glas ummantelte Zugringstruktur – ist graduiert und durch 20 horizontale Kabel verbunden, die in einem Torroidmuster gewebt, gespannt und an beiden Enden an Verankerungen befestigt sind. Das gesamte 100 Meter lange Ensemble besteht aus King erinnert an einen segmentierten chinesischen Drachendrachen, der vom Rumpf des SST skaliert wurde. Bei der Entwicklung von Solarsonic wurde King an den Science-Fiction-Autor Sir Arthur Clarks Kurzgeschichte “Wind from the Sun” über ein Raumschiff erinnert, das von der Kraft von angetrieben wurde Sonnenlicht.
