This is the first interactive multimedia art project of artists Marilena Oprescu Singer (Saint Machine) and Radu Pop (Noper).

The whole exhibition “Feed Me!” is contained in Marilena Oprescu Singer’s artwork: sensory capsule in the shape of a giant cocoon, called “Womb of Tra” with a height of 5.5 meters and a length of 9 meters, which swallows its visitors and feeds on their energy.

Potrivit unui comunicat al ARCUB remis marți AGERPRES, prezența proiectului în cadrul festivalului ARS ELECTRONICA vizează aducerea în atenția publicului internațional a creațiilor artiștilor români care îmbină cu succes arta cu tehnologia.

Instalația multimedia interactivă FEED ME este un experiment artistic care explorează relația de interdependență dintre lucrarea de artă și publicul său, fiind construită autoironic sub forma unei chemări a supușilor “monstruoasei și veșnic nesătulei Tra” la ritualul de hrănire a acesteia. Lucrările celor doi artiști sunt interconectate conceptual și formează un singur organism viu, care se alimentează cu energia produsă de mișcările publicului.

Conceptul și ilustrațiile sunt realizate de Saint Machine (Marilena Oprescu Singer) și Noper (Radu Pop), muzica și efectele sonore sunt realizate de Mitoș Micleușanu, modelarea și animația 3D sunt realizate de Reniform (Sergiu Negulici), animația de Tudor Calnegru. La proiect au contribuit inginerul Florin Palade și programatorul Marius Farcaș.

“FEED ME este o poveste științifico-fantastică țesută în mintea unor oameni vizionari. În momentul în care am intrat în acea structură de metal care vibrează, mi-am dat seama că, în zilele noastre, artistul poate colabora cu omul de știință. Am realizat că această experiență reprezintă vremurile pe care le trăim și că artiștii inovatori trebuie sprijiniți. Aceasta este misiunea ARCUB, ca centru cultural al unui oraș care se pregătește să candideze la titlul de Capitală Europeană a Culturii în 2021”, a declarat Mihaela Păun, director ARCUB, citată în comunicat.

Un festival al tehnologiei, ARS ELECTRONICA se concentrează anul acesta pe revoluția digitală și prezintă o imagine asupra modului în care vor fi configurate orașele viitorului atunci când vor exista mai mulți roboți decât oameni în fabrici, când totul în jurul nostru va fi interconectat printr-o inteligență artificială, automobilele se vor conduce singure, iar dronele vor livra scrisorile. O regândire a spațiilor de locuit, care a fost deja inițiată de cei care propun idei noi de arhitectură și forme de organizare sociale menite să țină pasul cu schimbările care vor fi aduse de următoarele decenii, se mai arată în comunicat.

FEED ME is a ludic experiment that explores the relation between the artwork and its public. With a self-ironical approach, the project is calling the subjects of monstrous and perpetually insatiable Tra to her feeding ritual: the entire exhibition is a live organism that feeds on the energy produced by the movements of the public. It is an interactive multimedia capsule that carries a dynamic platform where everything moves, pulses and reacts to motion on a common rhythm. The exhibition space is structured in narrowing concentric circles, creating several worlds that include each other and cocoon around a magical protection space, thus the public is activated on several levels. Once you immerse into “Womb of Tra”, real and virtual space overlap and you become a pawn playing, almost against your will, the game of alienation induced by repetitive routine actions. Feed Me project creates a multidimensional space hungry to absorb your attention and use the force of your body. The “user” can enter the artwork and has access to its controlling mechanisms; the artwork becomes an extension of his/her hands and head, and the anonymous visitor is transformed into a creator, because only his/her energy gives a meaning to the entire exhibition.

FEED ME project is composed of three different artworks that are conceptually interconnected:

WOMB OF TRA

“Womb of Tra” is a nine-meter-long cocoon-shaped sensorial capsule, created by Saint Machine as an itinerant multimedia playground where artists are challenged to dialogue, the installation is made of steel and aluminum structure covered with 699 different size radiant triangles that can pulse, change color and give you sound feedback as you approach and enter it. Inside the womb everything moves, pulses and reacts to motion on a common rhythm, that of the music and sound effects created in collaboration with sound-designer Mitos Micleusanu. Feeding the womb of monstrous and perpetually insatiable Tra is very much like making a ritual journey. Tra swallows her visitors through the input orifice, alters and vomits them through the output opening. At the first display of the project in May 2014 at Galateca Gallery, part of the concave walls of the cocoon were coated with a cluster of hand-modeled cilia that formed a giant sensorial area around the seven screens. “Innerform” cilia shield inside “Womb of Tra” originated in the idea of the scar tissue forming around wounds. The touch sensors incorporated inside activated three different kind of reactions to each of the characters in the animations of Noper, depending on the cilia area you touched. Together with the sensors hidden inside the hand-modeled paste, there are also led lights that started to pulse for 10 seconds the moment you were touching it. The “Innerform” idea grew, and for the second display of the project at the University Square (September 2014) the cilia were replaced with a network of whispering tubes whose interaction consists in the direct contact with them, the visitors being able to communicate through them from one end to the other of the cocoon. “Innerform” tubes demand you to feed them with your whispers; the sounds that somebody is waiting for arrive amplified at the end of the tube, while the lost ones, that nobody is there for to catch, wander about inside the tube-web and return in an electric form, each tube playing a different soundtrack inside.

THE SECRET MEMORIES OF NOPER. BEYOND TIME AND SPACE.

Swallowed by the womb of perpetually insatiable Tra, you find yourself facing seven enchanted mirrors: “The Secret Memories of Noper” (“The Fool”, “The Magician”, “The Empress”, “The Emperor”, “The Hanged Man”, “Death” and “The Star”), a video installation formed of seven hd 2.5 animations, seven portals that break the organic tissue of the cocoon and urge you to pass through. However, the interaction with them is deceptive, while they feed on your attention, they only feed you back with hallow symbols. “The Secret Memories of Noper” are womb recollections of past lives of the soul before entering the egg. The artworks of Radu Pop demand the visitor to remember his/her belonging to the cosmic dimension, they are portals that transcend the physicality of the womb and go beyond time and space. The universe of memories shows us glimpses of surrealist sceneries and bizarre characters whose faces are hidden by masks. “The Secret Memories of Noper” form a space of false mysticism and symbols, therefore, they will raise questions but give no answers. The artist creates satirical links between the seven characters and the seven major arcana of tarot. While at the first Feed Me display at Galateca Gallery the visitors could control the actions of the characters by touching the cilia surrounding them, it eventually came natural to let all of the animations play randomly.

SACRED EGG OF SAINT MACHINE AND THE RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD EMBRYO

In the middle of this organic world, there lies “Sacred Egg”, an interactive egg-shaped installation that swallows your head and feeds on your energy to return to life. After connecting your head to its input orifice, you can determine the actions of the artwork and become part of it. “The Dead Embryo of Tra” shaped as a living tubular dress is insatiably sucking your attention through your head and only breathes as long as you stay connected. When you try to take your head out of the egg, the projection inside reacts violently, screaming, throwing triangles and eventually dying. While “The Secret Memories of Noper” look back on transcendental cosmic consciousness, Sacred Egg of Saint Machine points to the continuous present in the making. Sacred Egg is about potentiality, perpetually repetitive but insufficient physicality, about continuous death and revival. While offering the illusion of control it is stealing your senses and absorbing your consciousness. Looking from behind, all there is left is a beheaded body, hanging from a giant egg, voided of individual will and responding only to the feeding needs of the egg.

ARCUB – Centrul Cultural al Municipiului Bucuresti participa cu proiectul multimedia interactiv „FEED ME“, semnat de artistii romani Saint Machine si Noper, la POST CITY – Habitate ale Secolului XXI, Festivalul de arta, tehnologie si societate Ars Electronica 2015 din Linz. Prezenta proiectului in cadrul festivalului Ars Electronica vizeaza aducerea in atentia publicului international a creatiilor artistilor romani care imbina cu succes arta cu tehnologia. Realizat de Saint Machine (Marilena Oprescu Singer – artist multimedia) si Noper (Radu Pop – artist ilustrator), „FEED ME“ este un proiect care a fost prezentat pentru prima oara ca work in progress in primavara lui 2014 la Noaptea Alba a Galeriilor de ARCUB impreuna cu Artmix, Galeria Galateca, ICR si AFCN, pentru ca in toamna sa fie dezvoltat mai departe de ARCUB pentru participarea la Zilele Bucurestiului 2014.

Instalatia multimedia interactiva „FEED ME“ este un experiment artistic care exploreaza relatia de interdependenta dintre lucrarea de arta si publicul sau, fiind construita autoironic sub forma unei chemari a supusilor „monstruoasei si vesnic nesatulei Tra“ la ritualul de hranire a acesteia. Lucrarile celor doi artisti sunt interconectate conceptual si formeaza un singur organism viu, care se alimenteaza cu energia produsa de miscarile publicului.

Proiectul „FEED ME“ ofera o experienta senzoriala completa – intreaga expozitie este continuta de Womb of Tra, o capsula multimedia creata de Saint Machine, care reactioneaza sonor si vizual pe masura ce isi „inghite“ vizitatorii. Inauntrul pantecelui lui Tra, acestia sunt invitati intr-o calatorie ritualica prin sapte porti care transcend organicitatea coconului si ii invita sa paseasca prin ele, dezvaluind sapte personaje in miscare care se hranesc cu atentia publicului si dau la schimb simboluri golite de sens, impreuna formand instalatia video „The Secret Memories of Noper“, creata de Noper. Inauntrul instalatiei „FEED ME“ totul se misca, vibreaza si reactioneaza la miscare pe un ritm comun, cel al muzicii si al efectelor sonore create in colaborare cu Mitos Micleusanu. In centrul acestei lumi stranii locuieste Sacred Egg, o instalatie interactiva in forma de ou, creata de Saint Machine, care se hraneste cu capul vizitatorului si traieste doar atat timp cat acesta sta conectat la orificiul sau. Vizitatorul conectat face parte din lucrarea de arta, oul oferindu-i iluzia controlului, in timp ce ii acapareaza atentia si se foloseste de energia lui pentru a respira.
