RENE LALOUX

Рене Лалу
gandahar

PIVOT POINT – ICHIHARA
‘Pivot Point – Ichihara’ is an interactive site-specific installation. Standing on a controller pod you navigate over and through a 3D terrain where gravity seems to have disappeared, you gradually become tele-present in a parallel projected space by exploring a mediated version of the venue, it’s direct surroundings and the Ichihara region. A cinematic journey to a fascinating point cloud realm, precise in details but simultaneously abstract and dreamlike. The kidney shaped interface is covered with capacitive sensors and mounted on a pole, touching this interface right, left, up or down aims the virtual camera accordingly. When you release the navigation pole the virtual camera automatically starts spiralling back to the initial starting point your journey and temporary centre of the universe, the Asohbara Art House.

concept 37
Concept 37 is a breathtaking building with its simple yet effective details provides an eloquent combination that would make you wonder how such a place exists. The upward moving building would never let you guess the angle, depending on the point of your perspective you will determine a different angle each time, which is one of the many reasons that contributes to its reputation as a fascinating place.

Doug Foster

Sanctuary
Sanctuary Spaces is a collection of two digital editions by Doug Foster which derive from large scale installation pieces by the artist. Both works reference Foster’s interest in creating transcendental, mesmerising spaces which transform existing structures into gateways to other worlds.

LUCYANDBART

露西·麦克雷和巴特·赫斯
Люси Мак Рае и Барт Хесс

“Lucyandbart” is a collaboration between artists Lucy McRae and Bart Hess. In it they imagine human bodies and faces physically altered with a shocking but artistic realism. Globules of foam, asymmetric spines… fascinating and repugnant simultaneously, the pictures become even more disturbing because they don’t hint at the emotional state of the subject. Each transformed human looks blankly back at you, neither horrified or surprised or excited about their change of form, but merely present and allowing it to be shown to you.

Palanco Double Sided Mirror

A delicate mirror pane hangs suspended from cables and pulleys. Designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, the Palanco is a double-faced mirror which hangs from the ceiling from a clever system of cables, pulley and counterweights enabling easy adjustment of it’s height. The counterweights themselves are a large design feature, available in red, brown or neutral. A fascinating and industrial style design.

JOACHIM SAUTER, ART+COM AND ÓLAFUR ARNALDS

Symphonie Cinétique

The exhibition project focuses mainly on the correlation and interaction of three elements: reflection, sound and movement. Symphonie Cinétique narratively interrelates the three elements, and brings out their inherent, almost mystic harmony. The result of this process is an artistic synthesis, a unique spatial experience. At the premiere, Arnalds performed the Symphonie Cinétique live on piano and tablet. This fascinating interplay between music, light and movement served as a prelude to the exhibition.

NANINE LINNING

BACON

He painted the abysses of the human soul: the British artist Francis Bacon. Basic mechanisms of relationships such as desire, domination and exclusion he presented with merciless honesty and painful beauty.
With her piece, Nanine Linning fathoms the emotional cosmos of Bacon`s paintings and detects in their uncompromising depiction an analogy with her own art. With excessive physicality, the choreography explores fundamental patterns of behavior, which blur the line between human and feral bearing by their archaic and merciless nature. From an almost disturbing proximity the spectator witnesses the struggle of the individual for affiliation. At the same time fascinating and disturbing, the piece celebrates its comeback on stage fourteen years after its first release. BACON, which received the »Swan« for the best Dutch choreography, returns with revised choreography and new video- and light design.

Douglas Lee

Naiad
“Douglas Lee’s Naiad takes the audience on a fascinating journey to the depths of the ocean. Fragments of Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s poem The Kraken, a mysterious Naiad and a swarm of undulating dancers evoke the depths of an element which has long captivated the human imagination.” Stuttgart Ballet

Nanine Linning

Silver
Robotics, cybernetics and developments in the field of artificial intelligence put the equally fascinating as disquieting idea of artificial life within our grasp. Nanine Linning’s new production SILVER addresses the intimate – and increasingly intrusive – relationship between the human and the technological, showing the beauty of its aesthetics, but also questioning its promise of ever increasing progress and self-improvement.

Nothing has changed as radically in the last few decades as the technology we surround ourselves with on a daily basis. Modern means of communication let the world shrink to a pocket size Global Village. Medical technology promises life beyond its natural limits.

The futuristic curves highlighted the collection’s minimalistic inspiration. The unusual creations brought to mind robotic-like fixtures, while exuding elegance and grace. We fell instantly in love with the cold yet fascinating faceted dresses.

Functionality Kills The Fun – Kast.03
Functionality Kills the Fun is a series of “broken” furniture that go by one principle: Functionality is overrated! Products become more interesting when they perform their task partly or even poorly. Most of the time the image or the emotional value that the object generates is what makes it so fascinating. In cases where the functionality is subject to the image you see that the pieces are more open for added value from the individual user.

Lee Griggs

cgi masks
Madrid-based 3D artist Lee Griggs created some fascinating topographical illustrations using 3D animation and rendering software Maya Xgen and Arnold. Each piece is comprised of countless >spheres, cylinders, or cubes that have been extruded and colored to create images reminiscent of ocean floors, bacterial growth, or even weather patterns.
