Performance audiovisiva in più tableau, Echo Chamber si ispira a tecnologie che ci permettono di sondare all’interno del corpo, come gli ultrasuoni e l’agopuntura, generando una composizione sonora in cui predomina l’idea di risonanza. Nel creare un’interfaccia modulare di tre pannelli che consente molteplici manipolazioni, Messier ha determinato i confini delle possibilità per l’esecuzione di una coreografia di suoni e luci. Impugna lunghi aghi come se fossero note di uno strumento, perforando una piastra audio-reattiva che innesca sequenze sonore.

Haegue Yang’s expansive installation, titled Sol LeWitt Upside Down – Structure with Three Towers, Expanded 23 Times, Split in Three, consists of over 500 independent components made of Venetian blinds that together recreate one of LeWitt’s signature works from 1986 – connecting LeWitt’s work to her own attempts to be liberated from the urge to compose, and the way modular thinking leads towards proliferation. Magnifying its size 23 times and hanging it upside down, this is the first work in her Sol LeWitt Upside Down series.

Futures uses the optical illusions created by light, sound and mirrors to transport audiences to a place where good things have happened and the future we want exists now. Futures is an immersive space in which audiences experience illusions that can reveal everything from how they process space and time to their perception of consciousness. It is a modular light installation that takes a number of forms. It is shown here as a walkway of mirrors and lights, tunnelling inwards towards a vanishing point.

Matilda is a completely different space since nowadays we don’t need so much storage space, you just need to have a screen. The only thing is important is to have a nice place to eat, to seat and to sleep but also this can be done with something you close when you don’t need

MSHR is the art collective of Birch Cooper and Brenna Murphy. The duo collaboratively builds and explores systems composed of sound, light, sculpture, software and circuitry. Their practice is a self-transforming cybernetic entity with its outputs patched into its inputs, the resulting emergent form serving as its navigational system. These outputs primarily take the form of installations and performances that integrate interface design with generative systems and a distinctive formalist approach. MSHR’s name is a modular acronym, designed to hold varied ideas over time. MSHR emerged from the art collective Oregon Painting Society in 2011 in Portland, Oregon, USA.

ADB is a modular robot designed for tactile interactions with people. It is composed of a chain of prism-shaped robotic modules. Through the modules’ coordinated behavior, the robot writhes, wriggles and twists in response to the presence of skin and force. The robot is animated only when actively engaged by a person, otherwise it is at rest. Stroking, rubbing or grasping ADB results in it pushing back, retreating or occasionally grasping onto a body part, depending on the combination of stimulus. Participants may experience the object at their leisure. They can play with the device, exploring how it feels, and how it responds to their touch.

The concepts of continuity and potential infinity have been central themes of Erwin Hauer’s opus from very early on in his career as a sculptor. In his native Vienna, he began to explore infinite continuous surfaces that evolved into perforated modular structures that were appropriate in architectural applications. Hauer’s sculptural walls are intricately woven forms that create a visual sense of infinity – a frozen poetry in motion. He patented these designs, developed the technology to produce them, and installed the modular, light-diffusing walls in buildings throughout the United States and seven other countries.

Railing is an exploration of structural modular loops that are upholstered like handle-grips to become furniture. Each piece of furniture is a single loop made up of many circles. Here, the circle does not display the qualities it is most known for, but it is what a circle can be. It is not whole or complete but is instead growing into itself. è stato annunciato che sou fujimoto è stato scelto per costruire la seconda follia architettonica del 21 ° secolo a montpellier, in francia. il team multidisciplinare vincitore comprende anche gli studi francesi nicolas laisné associés (NL * A) e manal rachdi oxo architects. la torre a uso misto di 17 piani ospiterà unità residenziali, uffici, una galleria d’arte, un ristorante e un bar panoramico. uno sforzo interculturale, lo schema incarna la montpellier di oggi, con un’integrazione degli stili giapponese e mediterraneo. la struttura è strategicamente posizionata tra il centro cittadino ed i quartieri di recente sviluppo di port marianne e odysseum, a metà strada tra il vecchio e il nuovo quartiere della città. chiamata “albero bianco”, o “arbre blanc”, la struttura di 10.000 metri quadrati cresce organicamente dal terreno, con una forma naturale che sembra essere stata scolpita nel tempo. i vari rami dello schema forniscono anche aree d’ombra selezionate per le proprietà adiacenti. ciascuno dei residenti del grattacielo selezionerà una planimetria preferita da un elenco di possibili layout, incoraggiando l ‘”architettura a libera scelta” con una serie di spazi modulari. a dominare lo skyline, l’edificio presenta periferie dense ma permeabili dove le divisioni tra spazio interno ed esterno sono sfumate. influenzati dalla passione della città per la vita all’aria aperta, i balconi gravitano verso l’esterno, come foglie che si aprono a ventaglio per assorbire la luce solare. una generosa dotazione di vegetazione vede giardini pensili, piante e alberi posizionati in tutte le unità residenziali, immaginati come un giardino verticale. la torre elabora strategie passive in tutto il suo design di garantire un ambiente confortevole e vivibile che si nutre delle risorse disponibili a livello locale.

Primitives

Primitives is an installation that combines the romantic tradition of ruined landscapes with modular fractals. First realized across the entry of the Venice Biennale in 2010, it is comprised of loosely dispersed furniture elements that appear like rock piles, each one unique but formed from the same universal building block. Like microcosms in the distance, the clusters are imagined as islands falling apart and building back up, organizing and eroding at once.

Die in New York lebende renommierte Künstlerin Georgia Sagri baute in der MelasPapadopoulos-Galerie in Athen ein flexibles Arrangement von Gärten. Pflanzen wachsen, Plastik- und Keramikobjekte erscheinen, Handlungen werden von der Künstlerin in ihrer Performance verfolgt und nachgebildet. Letzte Nacht war der erste der drei aufeinander folgenden Abende. Die Gärten, modulare Kisten mit aromatischen Pflanzen, verstreuten Skulpturen und angehängten Bänken, verweisen auf einen Ort der Einschließung, eine Bühne, in der Schauspieler und Betrachter unter bereits gebildeten Erzählstrukturen zusammengefasst sind. Doch Sagri bietet in dem Versuch, den tragischen Fall sozialer und politischer Fantasien außer Kraft zu setzen, das Liebesereignis des französischen Philosophen Alain Badiou – „Romantik als materielles Ende verkörperte Praxis des Produzierens von Wundern“ – als möglichen Raum für die Produktion von Wahrheit Installation, eine Performance / Schleife, eine PowerPoint-Präsentation, eine Reihe von Fotografien und Zeichnungen sowie eine Sammlung von Texten des Künstlers.

The installation “capacitive body” is a modular light system that reacts to the sound of its environment. Each custom-built module consists of an electro-luminescent light wire linked to a piezoelectric sensor and a microcontroller. Through its modular setup it can easily be adapted to various urban spaces. The sensors are used to measure vibrations of architectural solids in a range of low frequencies. These oscillations are triggered by surrounding ambient noise, for example traffic noise. The data sensor controls the light wires, which are tensed to a spatial net structure. According to the values of the measurement, light flashes are generated. With increasing vibrations the time between flashes becomes shorter and shorter. The stability of this nervous system gets to an end where it collapses and restarts again. A dynamic light space is thereby created, which creates a visual feedback of the aural activity around the installation.

ICD and ITKE Research Pavilion

The Institute for Computational Design (ICD) and the Institute of Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) of the University of Stuttgart have constructed another bionic research pavilion. The project is part of a successful series of research pavilions which showcase the potential of novel design, simulation and fabrication processes in architecture. The project was planned and constructed within one and a half years by students and researchers within a multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers and biologists.
The focus of the project is a parallel bottom-up design strategy for the biomimetic investigation of natural fiber composite shells and the development of novel robotic fabrication methods for fiber reinforced polymer structures. The aim was the development of a winding technique for modular, double layered fiber composite structures, which reduces the required formwork to a minimum while maintaining a large degree of geometric freedom. Therefore, functional principles of natural lightweight structures were analyzed and abstracted in cooperation with the University of Tübingen and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Through the development of a custom robotic fabrication method, these principles were transferred into a modular prototype pavilion.

The ReacTable is a collaborative electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible multi-touch interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving and rotating physical objects on a luminous round table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, fi lters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable fl ow-controlled programming language. The instrument was developed by a team of digital luthiers under the direction of Dr. Sergi Jordà. The “Interactive Sonic Systems” team works in the Music Technology Group within the Audiovisual Institute at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. Its main activities concentrate on the design of new musical interfaces, such as tangible musical instruments and musical applications for mobile devices. The reactable intends to be: collaborative: several performers (locally or remotely), intuitive: zero manual, zero instructions, sonically challenging and interesting, earnable and masterable (even for children), suitable for novices (installations) and advanced electronic musicians (concerts). The reactable hardware is based on a translucent, round multi-touch surface. A camera situated beneath the table continuously analyzes the surface, tracking the player’s fi ngertips and the nature, position and orientation of physical objects that are distributed on its surface. These objects represent the components of a classic modular synthesizer. The players interact by moving these objects, changing their distance, orientation and the relation to each other. These actions directly control the topological structure and parameters of the sound synthesizer. A projector, also from underneath the table, draws dynamic animations on its surface, providing a visual feedback of the state, the activity and the main characteristics of the sounds produced by the audio synthesizer.
